ProofTrader is a stock picking website and community blog where you contribute articles paired to predictions about stocks. Over time your performance is factored into a 1-100 score. We believe in transparency and accountability, so you can see every one of our analyst's picks since they joined the site.

We call our users analysts, because their contributions, in the form of articles matched with stock predictions, may prove to be altogether more valuable than the coverages of Wall Street analysts.

The idea for the site came in October 2007. We launched the beta version of the site on September 9, 2009.

The content of the site is divided into two parts: articles, which could be seen as similar to blog posts; and predictions, a target date and price for any security for which quote information is available. Each prediction is tied to an article and neither exists without the other; we call it a coverage.

As users enter coverages over time, we rate their performance. This rating is embodied by the PT Score, a 1 - 100 score expressing both how ambitious and how accurate the analyst has been. As coverages remain open, they are evaluated according to the latest market data. Once the coverage is closed, either because its target date was reached or the analyst closed the coverage early, the contribution to the score slowly ages away. The aging takes place in relation to how long of a timespan the coverage delineated, so longer timeframe predictions age out more slowly.

At the end of each market day scores are recalculated. The PT Score will of course fluctuate over time. Because this is a beta, the scoring algorithm itself will likely change. But the concept of the score will remain the same, which is a purely quantitative measure of your success over time.
