Why do we ask for your name and home town?
Although many sites use a 'nickname' model, we felt that using real names contributes to our principle of accountability. If users choose to use a pseudonym, that is fine. Furthermore, the home town field is purposely flexible, so feel free to be creative there while still keeping with the theme of a place.
ProofTrader is a stock analysis site where peers contribute articles along with predictions about stocks (or ETFs, mutual funds, etc). Each member is rated, partly in relation to other members but partly against an absolute scale of possible returns.
Wall Street analysts exist in a vacuum where no one really keeps track of how good their decisions were; the paradigm of ‘strong buy, buy, outperform’ etc is not our model. Our analysts all have a 1-100 score representing, basically, how much money you could have made had you followed their lead.
So there’s really two sides to it, writing articles, which may be witty, silly, serious, or informational, any tone at all really, and making predictions with the goal of being right. A collaborative community, a community of equals, but also one in which the ‘cream’ will rise to the top.
