Intro
I was born in Cyprus, a Greek island located in the Meditteranean sea, surrounded by 3 continents; Asia, Africa and Europe, close to Egypt, Turkey & Greece.
My life was forever changed by the illegal and barbaric Turkish invasion which began on July 14, 1974 and has forever scarred or took the lives of thousands of Cypriots, including men, women, children and the elderly.
I will never forget that awful day....We were waken by the sound of the bombs exploding nearby.....Much closer than in the past few weeks. The earth shook more with each and every new explosion.... I could hear the neighbors arguing...and crying......Then I heard a loud honk and my dad rushing towards my grandma and I, telling her to grab some sheets and get in the truck. They argued for a while because she wanted to run to the orchards and feed the animals, but he won....Next thing you know, he threw me in the back of the truck where my sister lay, on top of some bundles of sheets and probably food....along where sister was laying on top of some My mom came and grabbed me, and in the proc S truck contemplating whether to stay or go...Then I heard a loud honk.....
After a brief argument between my dad & grandma, who was more concerned about feeding the animals than getting in the truck, I found myself in the back of the truck on top of some bundled blankets and next to my sister. My mom, who was sitting in the front with my 4 year old twin brother and sister kept turning back trying to make sure we were sitting low enough and were warm enough.....I realized that I dropped one of my "flip-flops" when my dad threw me in the truck, and I tried to tell him about it.....but he just ignored me and began driving as soon as grandma came with her little bundle of bare necessities.
I found myself in the back of and I was forced to " flee for our lives" with just the clothes on our back and a bundle of bare necessities.....in the back of my dad's pickup truck.....Bombs exploding in the background, chased away from everything and everyone familiar and important to us, away from our home, land and all of our possessions....everything and everyone familiar and precious to us.....Running for our lives and possessionsthat belonged to us, everyone & all that was familiar and important to us following us along the coastline and into the long winding road as we drove away from everything familiar and precious to usfollowing us along the coastline and .....as we sped past the coastline and above the tree lined long winding road and the & tall mountains and in the back of my dads's and a bundle of of blankets, o fled from our home with just the clothes on our back When I was 1, my family & I fled our little town by the sea My family & I fled for our lives immigrated to the Bay Area in 1975, a year after the illegal and barbarian Turkish invasion
