Adding to the mobile Internet Portfolio

Telecom chipmaker Broadcom reported a strong quarter this morning, which could give the Nasdaq Composite a boost this morning.

The company reported third-quarter net income of 60 cents a share on revenue of $1.8 billion. Excluding certain items, earnings were 74 cents a share, better than estimates of 71 cents a share. Mobile and wireless revenue surged.

John Shipman, my Dow Jones colleague, cites a Baird report that says ?momentum in the quarter was primarily driven by wireless, the result of strong smartphone trends.? The company also said it was gaining traction with a ?key? customer. (Apple, of course.)

Broadcom shares are up 10% in premarket trading. Baird, despite the strong report, maintains a ?neutral? rating on the share. FBR Capital takes a more bullish view, according to John, saying Broadcom?s results ?demonstrate its ramping product cycles and ability to outgrow most competitors.?

Broadcom was last indicated at $41 in premarket action, up from Tuesday?s close of $37.22

Over 10% gain for the day....not bad.

Given these gaps up, I think that a stop loss needs to be put in here to protect gains.

Getting some new buy recommendations and they have an analyst call coming up on the 14th. This is likely a long term holding for me, and I may consider adding to it.
