Don't get too excited. I'm writing this coverage for two reasons. First, I already have an infamous short coverage on NFLX that recently turned positive, so I am hedging that a little bit with this confidence 4 pick. Secondly, I want to pimp the new "Upcoming Earnings" section at the bottom of the ProofTrader home page.
So many trades, and indeed so many coverages, have been spurred by upcoming earnings. We see outrageous thetas placed on options that evaporate in a matter of minutes due to earnings. It seems like earnings are the only real "news" anymore, in this market of great volatility and technical trading.
They say it's a trader's market, but I think "gambler's market" is a more apt moniker, because this is when the big moves occur, and how can you really know how the market will react to the results? It's an amplification event, a catalyst for caricature. If you're trading a sexy stock like AAPL or NFLX or OPEN, then it's not just about the numbers; it's also whether the CEO paused too long before making his forecast, or whether the CFO unleashed a hearty burrito belch in the midst of the CMG earnings, or any little thing we fickle peons collectively decide is important. For NFLX, we already know they'll be expanding to the UK, but what will be the key phrase that moves the stock in the after hours? I don't know because I don't really follow it as much anymore and I don't have time to research it. Maybe someone will help me in the comments. I told you not to get too excited.
If you feel like gambling on an idea, but hate the idea of putting your hard earned money at the whims of the traders on the Street, then why not write a coverage based on the stocks listed at the bottom of the home page? We've got some exciting PT staples like UA, IRBT, and AKAM coming up.
