Friday was just a taste of what we can expect as we wind down this experiment called humankind on your planet Earth. Everyone is too wrapped up in the US Presidential election and the expiring tax cuts to realize that an extinct civilization has predicted the end of the world.

It's hip these days to smugly proclaim, "well they sure didn't see the Spanish coming! (grin)" but do we really know that to be true? Maybe they had a version of the end of the world that was relevant to their own microcosm. Perhaps it wasn't a calendar, but something smaller like a stopwatch or egg timer that ended precisely at the moment of their annihilation by European invaders. Maybe this artifact was seized by their conquerors and it's sitting on the back of a toilet in a summer palace somewhere in Catalunya.

Indeed, the best people to ask about the potential extinction of the human species would come from a civilization of humans who themselves were wiped off the face of the planet! And the Mayans have spoken: SELL.
