I think people who believe this is a good buy long term havent considered the effects that companies like Pandora and Slacker will have in this market.

Ford and sync show the future of this market; with apps such as Pandora they will remove the need of satellite music and have it replaced with services that deliver over wireless. The future are phones, or the wireless platform, that would allow already available services like Pandora and Slacker to get a foothold in the car music world.

I think sirius in the long term can not compete with companies like Pandora and Slacker. I do understand the radio talk aspect of it but I see Pandora and Slacker as the future. Now the problem is that people who buy this stock, and therefore drive it up, are not considering this so it will go up but be wary of the hard crash. Short in the long term.

similar sentiment to my NFLX comments... I can see the same argument being made for SIRI. I think it still has a "darling" period ahead of it through 2010, where we'll see some serious wealth being inflated, but ultimately in the long run its already iffy margins could be in danger as more people latch onto substitutes. If SIRI responds to a bad quarter or two by dropping some original content (which is its main competitive advantage over substitutes), then we'll know it's all downhill. I think we're way ahead of the curve on this opinion, though, and so it will go up before it goes back down.

I think there are definitely valid points here, and I realize Sirius is what you'd call a 'speculative' investment as their current and past numbers don't look so great. But to the point of something like Pandora competing with Sirius, I don't doubt that for some people it will, but one big obstacle is how do you get the wireless internet delivered to your car? Let's say you get a wi-fi card from AT&T or Sprint or what have you, well it wouldn't be a card, but let's assume the pricing would be similar. Aren't we talking $20 a month or more, well over the Sirius XM price point?

Actually I was talking about phones with this service that you can connect via the aux cable. No extra cost involved. Im sure the cars will have some payment structure that will compete with sirius, as its a cheaper alternative.
