Valence Technology, Inc. develops, manufactures, sells, and supplies high-energy power systems in the United States and internationally. Its developed product includes U-Charge energy storage system, a suite of products based on proprietary lithium iron magnesium phosphate technology.

The company's product has applications in hybrid and full electric vehicles, wheelchairs, scooters, robotics, marine, remote power, military, back-up, and other devices.

Valence had a bit of a rough go in 2009, but recently made some waves for putting the world’s largest fleet of hydrogen fuel cell buses into service at the 2010 Olympic Games in Vancouver and Whistler, British Columbia. The energy storage and management technology for the fuel cell buses was made possible by Valence Technology’s dynamic energy systems.

Energy is a good place to be, especially small-cap stuff like this where institutional investors can't go. The risk is, if the overall market turns positive, the money could drain out of these small stocks very fast. On the other hand, if the market keeps going up, the gains you'll see with these will be much better than with the big stocks.
